In this complete day-by-day guide, we have done all the planning for you. Whether you are visiting Bali for the first time or returning after years away, this 7-day itinerary covers the very best the island has to offer.

From the dramatic cliffs of Uluwatu to the spiritual heart of Ubud, from volcanic sunrises to beachfront seafood dinners — this is your perfect week in Bali.

Before You Start: How to Use This Itinerary

This 7-day Bali itinerary is designed for first-time visitors who want to experience the highlights of the island without feeling rushed. Furthermore, it is fully flexible — if you fall in love with a particular area and want to spend an extra day there, simply adjust accordingly. Not sure when to travel? Check our Best Time to Visit Bali guide for a full month-by-month breakdown.

The itinerary is based on staying in the south of Bali (Seminyak, Kuta, or Canggu area) for the first half, then moving to Ubud for the second half. Additionally, all experiences in this guide are available as private tours through SecondHomeBali — so you never have to worry about transport, navigation, or planning on the day.

Best paired with: Our South Kuta Tour, North Kuta Tour, and Ubud Cultural Tour.

Day 1: Arrival & South Seminyak

Theme: Settle In & Soak Up the Atmosphere

Your Bali adventure begins the moment you land at Ngurah Rai International Airport. After clearing customs and collecting your luggage, your private transfer will take you directly to your accommodation in the south of the island.

We recommend spending your first day gently — give yourself time to adjust to the timezone, explore your surroundings, and soak up the energy of Bali without rushing into a packed itinerary.

Morning

Check in to your accommodation and freshen up. If you arrive early enough, take a leisurely walk along Seminyak Beach to get your first taste of Bali’s legendary coastline. The stretch between Seminyak and Petitenget is lined with beach cafes and is perfect for a slow morning coffee.

Afternoon

Head to the famous Seminyak Square area for lunch at one of the many excellent cafes and restaurants. Afterwards, explore the boutique shops and galleries that line Jalan Laksmana — Seminyak’s main shopping street.

Evening

End your first day at one of Seminyak’s iconic beach clubs for sunset cocktails. Ku De Ta and Potato Head are among the most popular options. As the sun drops into the Indian Ocean, you will understand immediately why Bali sunsets are so legendary.

Dinner recommendation: Sardine restaurant in Seminyak for a romantic open-air dining experience surrounded by rice fields.

Day 2: South Kuta — Beaches, Temples & Clifftop Views

Bali Itinerary 7 Days

Theme: The Iconic South

Today is a full day exploring the highlights of South Bali — from pristine beaches to Bali’s most dramatic clifftop temple.

Morning — Pandawa Beach

Start early with a visit to Pandawa Beach, one of Bali’s most beautiful and photogenic hidden beaches. Carved into dramatic limestone cliffs, the road down to Pandawa is lined with enormous stone carvings of Balinese figures. Arrive before 9:00 AM to enjoy the beach before the crowds arrive.

Late Morning — GWK Cultural Park

Head to Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park, home to one of the largest statues in the world — the magnificent 121-metre Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue. The views from the park across southern Bali are extraordinary.

Afternoon — Uluwatu Temple

No visit to Bali is complete without seeing Uluwatu Temple. Perched on a dramatic 70-metre cliff above the Indian Ocean, this ancient sea temple is one of Bali’s most spectacular sights. Arrive in the late afternoon to explore the temple grounds and watch the famous Kecak Fire Dance performance at sunset — a truly unforgettable experience.

Evening — Jimbaran Bay

After the Kecak Dance, head down to Jimbaran Bay for a legendary beachfront seafood dinner. Tables are set directly on the sand at the water’s edge, with fresh seafood grilled over coconut husks. As the waves lap gently beside you and the stars appear overhead, this is Bali dining at its most magical.

Day 3: Nusa Dua & Tanah Lot

Bali Itinerary 7 Days

Theme: Hidden Beaches & Sacred Temples

Morning — Nusa Dua

Spend the morning at Nusa Dua, one of Bali’s most pristine and well-maintained beach areas. The calm, clear waters here are ideal for swimming and water sports. Additionally, the Bali Collection shopping complex nearby is worth a browse if you are looking for souvenirs and local crafts.

Afternoon — North Kuta & Canggu

Head north through Kuta and on to Canggu — Bali’s most fashionable and creative neighbourhood. Canggu is packed with excellent cafes, surf shops, and yoga studios. Stop for lunch at one of the many trendy spots along Batu Bolong street.

Evening — Tanah Lot Temple

Time your arrival at Tanah Lot for late afternoon — this iconic sea temple, perched on a rocky outcrop surrounded by the ocean, is one of the most photographed sights in all of Southeast Asia. As the sun sets behind the temple and the waves crash around its base, the scene is genuinely breathtaking.

Day 4: Transfer to Ubud — The Cultural Heart of Bali

Bali Itinerary 7 Days

Theme: Into the Jungle

Today you leave the beaches behind and head north into the hills to Ubud — the cultural, artistic, and spiritual heart of Bali. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours from Seminyak, and there is plenty to see along the way.

Morning — Batubulan & Celuk Village

Stop at Batubulan to watch a traditional Barong Dance performance — a fascinating theatrical representation of the eternal struggle between good and evil in Balinese mythology. Afterwards, continue to Celuk Village, famous throughout Bali for its silver and gold jewellery craftsmanship. Many workshops here allow visitors to watch artisans at work.

Afternoon — Arrive in Ubud

Check in to your Ubud accommodation — ideally a jungle villa or rice terrace retreat for the full experience. Spend the afternoon exploring Ubud’s famous market and the adjacent Ubud Royal Palace at your own pace. The narrow streets surrounding the palace are lined with galleries, craft shops, and excellent cafes.

Evening

Ubud comes alive in the evening with traditional dance performances held at various temples and cultural centres across town. The Ubud Palace hosts nightly performances — we highly recommend attending at least one during your stay.

Day 5: Ubud — Rice Terraces, Temples & Jungle

Bali Itinerary 7 Days

Theme: Nature & Spirit

Today is a full day exploring the natural and spiritual wonders surrounding Ubud — arguably the most breathtaking day of your entire 7-day Bali itinerary.

Early Morning — Tegalalang Rice Terraces

Set your alarm early and arrive at Tegalalang Rice Terraces by 7:30 AM. This UNESCO-listed landscape of cascading emerald green rice paddies is one of the most iconic sights in all of Bali. Arriving early means you will have the terraces almost entirely to yourself before the tour buses arrive at 9:00 AM.

Mid-Morning — Coffee Plantation

Stop at a traditional Balinese coffee and spice plantation for a fascinating tour of how local coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, and other spices are grown and processed. The plantation tour includes a complimentary tasting of Bali’s famous Luwak coffee — one of the most unique coffee experiences in the world.

Afternoon — Sacred Monkey Forest

After lunch in Ubud, visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary — a lush jungle sanctuary home to over 700 long-tailed macaques. Walking through the ancient temples and moss-covered trees while surrounded by playful monkeys is a genuinely memorable experience. However, keep a close eye on your belongings — the monkeys are notoriously curious!

Late Afternoon — Tirta Empul Water Temple

End the day at Tirta Empul, one of Bali’s most sacred Hindu water temples. Here, locals and visitors alike participate in a traditional purification ritual in the temple’s crystal-clear spring water. The atmosphere is deeply spiritual and unlike anything else you will experience on the island.

Day 6: Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Hot Springs

Mounth batur bali

Theme: Adventure Day

Today is an early start — but it is absolutely worth it. Mount Batur is an active volcano in the Kintamani highlands of Bali, and trekking to its summit for sunrise is one of the most unforgettable experiences the island has to offer.

Pre-Dawn — Mount Batur Sunrise Trek

Your guide will collect you from your accommodation at approximately 3:00 AM for the drive to the Mount Batur trailhead. The trek to the summit takes around two hours at a comfortable pace, arriving just in time to watch the sunrise from 1,717 metres above sea level.

As the sun rises over the volcanic crater lake and the clouds part to reveal the surrounding landscape — including neighbouring Mount Agung and the distant coastline — you will understand why this is considered one of the most spectacular sunrise experiences in Southeast Asia.

Morning — Kintamani Views & Breakfast

After descending from the summit, stop at one of the scenic restaurants overlooking Lake Batur and the volcanic caldera for a well-deserved breakfast. The views from this altitude are extraordinary.

Afternoon — Banjar Hot Springs

On the way back towards Ubud, stop at Banjar Hot Springs — natural volcanic hot springs surrounded by lush jungle. After the early morning exertion of the volcano trek, soaking in the warm mineral-rich waters is the perfect recovery. Additionally, the setting is beautiful — multiple pools cascading down through tropical gardens.

Day 7: Leisure Day & Departure

Theme: Slow Down & Savour

Your final day in Bali should be exactly what you need it to be — whether that means a final morning at the beach, a last-minute souvenir shopping session, or simply sitting in a beautiful cafe and reflecting on an incredible week.

Morning

If your flight is in the afternoon or evening, use the morning for any remaining experiences you did not get to during the week. A traditional Balinese massage is a perfect final activity — leaving you relaxed and refreshed for the journey home.

Before Departure

Allow plenty of time to get to the airport. Bali traffic can be unpredictable, particularly during peak hours. We recommend allowing at least 2.5–3 hours before your flight departure time.

Your private transfer from SecondHomeBali will ensure you reach the airport comfortably and on time.

Essential Tips for Your 7-Day Bali Itinerary

Start early every day. The best experiences in Bali — rice terraces, temples, beaches — are always most enjoyable before 9:00 AM when the crowds are minimal.

Dress respectfully at temples. A sarong is required at all Hindu temples. SecondHomeBali provides sarongs on all our tours, so you do not need to purchase one separately.

Stay hydrated. Bali’s tropical heat can be deceptively intense. Carry water at all times and drink regularly throughout the day.

Bargain respectfully at markets. Haggling is expected and accepted at traditional markets, but always do so with a smile and genuine respect for the vendors.

Download offline maps. Google Maps works well in Bali and can be downloaded offline — useful in areas with limited connectivity.
